Subscribers to satellite TV have already been able to enjoy an impressive number of channels broadcast in HD. It was recently announced that a Satellite TV company has reached an agreement that will allow them to offer even more high definition channels in 15 markets. This new service was made possible through an agreement that was reached with LIN TV. A television provider is not able to offer a local channel without an agreement with the station owner, by law. The agreement with LIN TV has made it possible for the provider to broadcast the station's signals, providing even more advantages for subscribers.

In addition, this satellite TV provider has also launched a new satellite that will become operational in the fall and will make it possible for more national as well as local high-definition channels to be broadcast. Not only will Satellite be able to offer more HD channels in existing local markets but also to roll out additional local channels in the coming months as well.

The satellite was initially launched in March and while it had been hinted at that the satellite was not expected to become operational until September, there have been recent reports that have indicated that the satellite might become operational a bit sooner than originally expected. There have been some reports which have indicated that the satellite could become operational as soon as mid-August.

If that is the case, it would mean that Satellite would be able to expand its existing high-definition lineup much sooner than expected. Currently Satellite is able to offer 95 national high-definition channels. Once the new satellite becomes operational, Satellite will be able to expand that line-up to more than 100 channels. Ultimately, this satellite provider will obtain the capacity to provide as many as 150 national HD channels as a result of the new satellite.

To date the provider has kept quiet on exactly which new channels will be added to their lineup. There has been some speculation that some of the new high-def networks could include favorites like Fox News, AMC, ABC Family and WGN.

One of the reasons that there has been so much speculation that the new satellite is already ahead of schedule is the fact that Boeing has reported they were ready to hand the in-orbit delivery over to the company ahead of schedule. This would seem to indicate that the satellite is nearing the last phase before it becomes completely operational. It could also mean that the company is ready to begin testing satellite signals in preparation for turning on the satellite.

Boeing stated that the hand-over actually occurred some eight days ahead of schedule. This would certainly be good news in terms of a possible early launch of the satellite.

Subscribers have also received notice that testing of satellite signals for local receivers has already begun. The next few weeks should shed more light on this evolving advancement and possibly make it available for subscribers to begin viewing more high definition channels.
