Every year, Apple provides a series of upgrades to its iPods, introducing new features and improving performance. This year, the upgrades to the iPod Touch series advanced the music players to full multimedia devices, complete with many of the features that have made the 2nd generation iPhones so successful. In fact, the iPod Touch has nearly all of the iPhone options except for the lack of a cellular connection.
Music Features
For music fans, you'll find that both audio storage and video playback has improved. Judging from the quality of new music videos in genres ranging from jazz performances to rock concerts, the improved multimedia features make the upgrade well worth the purchase. In particular, Apple has enhanced the quality of sound, both internally and from upgraded integrated speakers. You can also access dynamic playlist suggestions with the new "Genius" feature based upon your music tastes. I discovered a few new artists during the process, and saw the recommendations improve over time based upon feedback.

While the music improvements are impressive, the new additions really make the new model worth the upgrade. In particular, with a full wireless capability, you can now track GPS maps in real-time, as well as accessing a much improved Safari web browsing experience. The new 3D graphics and accelerometer make the iTouch a credible portable gaming device. Access to the Apple Apps store gives you access to a wide variety of new software options ranging from business productivity to fun distractions like New York Times crosswords puzzles. Whether you use your iTouch for work or fun, you'll find the new additions truly mark a new generation in iPod technology.
